The Lavoro Autonomo program is designed for designers, IT specialists, consultants, and other "freelance professionals" with legal remote income. Essentially, it is an analogue of the Digital Nomad visa but with a lower tax burden. The program allows both the main applicant and their family members to obtain a residence permit for 1–2 years.

Residence permit for the whole family

Your family members (spouse and children) automatically receive a residence permit in Italy — relocate together, without additional conditions.

No need to live in the country

Paying taxes is sufficient. Officially, you cannot be absent continuously for more than 6 months (if the residence permit is for one year) or more than 1 year (if the residence permit is for 2 years). A continuous absence cycle can be interrupted by a one-week visit to Italy.

Tax as low as 5%

Income tax (IRPEF) under the simplified regime (Forfettario) is 5% for the first five years of activity (then 15% while respecting the limit of €85,000 per year).

Permanent residence in 5 years

After 5 years of residence, you can apply for a permanent resident card, and after 10 years – citizenship.

Travel without visas to Schengen Agreement countries and stay in them for up to 90 days out of 180.

Visa-free travel within Schengen countries

Experience as a self-employed person or entrepreneur.

Own or rented housing. It is possible to show Airbnb if you can prove that it is impossible to rent an apartment long-term.
